A Responsive web design (RWD) is a web design approach aimed at designing sites to provide an optimal viewing experience, easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, and scrolling—across a wide range of devices from desktop computer monitors to mobile devices.

Responsive Web design has become one of the hottest trends in 2013.  This is because of the  growth of smartphones and other mobile devices. More people are using smaller-screen devices to browse the Web pages.

The world of web design has been turned upside down with the rapid spread of mobile devices. Viewing the web content on traditional desktop systems is no longer a norm, users are now using smartphones, tablets, and other devices with a wide range of dimensions. The challenge for the web designers is to ensure that their web design looks good not only on a big screen, but also on a tiny phone and everything in between. A responsive web design uses “media queries” to figure out what resolution of device. Users currently seem to prefer reading their news and browsing the internet on the mobile web rather than on the desktop computers — I think it’s inevitable that 2013 will be the year that responsive design takes off.
