Here are some web design tips for you.  How does your website perform?  Does it generate business for you?

It is very important that your your web site loads fast, in the space of time a user has to wait for your website to load they will have lost interest and be looking elsewhere.   Avoid using Flash intros or too many graphics in the website.

Test your site for Browser compatibility.  You can test this by using Adobe Browser.  Adobe Browser lets you view your site in all major browsers.

Make sure your site is easy to navigate.  Every page should have a navigation link to the home page.

Ensure that all information can be accessible from all parts of the site by having a static menu or a footer containing important links.

Use common fonts such as Times Roman, Arial or Verdana, if you use one that is not available on the visitor’s computer then the text will turn to your computers default font.

Avoid using too much Flash and Javascript.  Do not use music on the website.  If you do use music then make sure you give users an option to turn it off.  Visitors get turned off by too many moving things and music.  Don’t annoy your visitors with pop up windows.  Do not use huge background images that make the page slower to load.  Compress all your images.  Do not use frames if you want your website to be search engine friendly.  If you are using content management software such as WordPress or Joomla, make sure you keep the software versions updated.

Always put your contact information on the top of the page. Always have a contact form on your website so that users have ability to contact you 24/7.  Periodically test your form.   Don’t steal content.  You should never copy content or pictures from another website unless you get permission from the website owner.  It is illegal and unethical to copy content from other websites.  Copying content will also lower your page rank.  IF SOMEBODY COPIES YOUR WEBSITE CONTENT YOU CAN REPORT TO GOOGLE!

Simplicity is always the best!  Keep the website simple and scaleable.  Use css driven menu links instead of images.  Create css driven web pages. All the website pages should have the same look and feel.
